For centuries, what has been Hungary’s most impactful cultural export to Europe? Heart-pumping music! Thanks to the Gypsy bands of the 18th and 19th centuries, all of Europe got to encounter an exotic world of music that the peoples of the continent have been enjoying ever since in the Hungarian (or at least, Hungarian-style) melodies of Beethoven, Haydn, Brahms, Johann Strauss, Delibes, Sarasate, Suppé, Berlioz, Monti and, of course, popular Hungarian composers like Liszt, Lehár and Kálmán. Featured at this closing concert of Hungary’s presidency programme will be a unique selection of these that is uniquely diverse in terms of genre, ranging from overtures, a piano concerto, and rhapsodies to operetta, a dance movement and a march, all performed under the baton of Gábor Hollerung by the Budafok Dohnányi Orchestra, one of the most popular ensembles in Hungary, joined by Rita Rácz, Zsolt Haja and Roby Lakatos, Apor Szüts. This programme is organised by Müpa Budapest within the framework of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. free upon reservation
