In this dialogue with science, we will explore the world of exoskeletons and how their development is enabling mobility for children with disabilities. CSIC researcher Elena Garc\u00eda Armada\u2014recipient, among others, of the Queen Letizia National Disability Award and the European Inventor Award from the European Patent Office\u2014will engage in conversation with the award-winning animation film director Pedro Sol\u00eds Garc\u00eda, who has received two Goya Awards, one of them for his short film Cuerdas, which centers on cerebral palsy. The discussion will be moderated by scientist Pilar Aguar Fern\u00e1ndez.
\nElena Garc\u00eda Armada holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering and is the founder and CEO of the Marsi Bionics project. After training at prestigious institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), she joined the scientific ranks of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in 2007. Her work has led to eight patents\u2014three of them licensed and extended internationally to the U.S. and Europe\u2014and more than one hundred scientific publications in journals and conferences. Today, she is considered one of the ten most prominent scientists at CSIC and one of the thirty most influential women in the world in robotics. She has received over fifty awards across different fields, including the Queen Letizia National Disability Award from the Royal Board on Disability and the European Inventor Award from the European Patent Office. She is currently a member of the jury for the Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, and in 2022 she became the fifth woman to be inducted as a full member of the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain.<\/p>\n
Pedro Sol\u00eds Garc\u00eda comes from the video game industry, where he worked in roles ranging from environment modeler to co-producer. His entire film career has been linked to animation. He contributed as an environment modeler to the animated short films Tadeo Jones and Tadeo Jones y el s\u00f3tano maldito. He has worked as a production director on feature films such as The Adventures of Tadeo Jones, Capture the Flag, and Tadeo Jones 2: The Secret of King Midas. With La Bruxa, his first short film as director and screenwriter, he received, among other honors, the 2011 Goya Award for Best Animated Short Film. With Cuerdas, his second short film, he won the 2014 Goya Award for Best Animated Short Film, along with many other accolades, and achieved a Guinness World Record as the most awarded short film in history. As a writer, he has authored stories based on his short films, a piece published in the book Relatos con causa, and the story La sonrisa de Lucas. In 2018, he co-founded the animation studio CORE Animation, from which he produced the feature film Mummies, which entered the top ten highest-grossing Spanish films of all time. In 2024, he co-directed the feature film Buffalo Kids, which received two Goya Award nominations.
