This quintet grew out of a long-standing musical partnership between pianist Pascal Mohy and saxophonist Ben Sluijs. Their improvised dialogue, shaped by years of working together as a duo and a shared artistic sensibility, naturally led them to expand the project. They are now joined by some of the leading figures in Belgian jazz : Jean-Paul Esti\u00e9venart on trumpet, Antoine Pierre on drums and Lennart Heyndels on double bass.
\nThe uniqueness of the project lies in the balance between composition and freedom. Their music is modern, lyrical and organic jazz, deeply rooted in tradition whilst leaving ample room for spontaneity and collective improvisation.
\nBen Sluijs’s ethereal melodic lines and Pascal Mohy’s delicate touch, combined with Jean-Paul Esti\u00e9venart’s incandescent playing, Antoine Pierre’s inventive and exuberant drumming, and Lennart Heyndels’s deeply organic double bass, create music that is at once intense, fluid and meditative. Every member of the quintet plays a full part in the musical narrative, through constant listening and a particularly lively collective performance.
