Dans le mythe hawa\u00efen de la cr\u00e9ation, H\u0101loa est le premier descendant des dieux et l’anc\u00eatre du peuple hawa\u00efen. W\u0101kea, le p\u00e8re c\u00e9leste, et Ho\u2018ohokukalani, une d\u00e9esse c\u00e9leste, eurent un enfant mort-n\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 H\u0101loa, qui signifie \u00ab long souffle \u00e9ternel \u00bb. Ils l’enterr\u00e8rent, et de son corps poussa le premier kalo (taro en fran\u00e7ais). Leur deuxi\u00e8me enfant, \u00e9galement nomm\u00e9 H\u0101loa, est devenu le premier anc\u00eatre humain. Appris \u00e0 honorer le kalo, il l’a reconnu comme son fr\u00e8re a\u00een\u00e9, qui a fourni la subsistance aux g\u00e9n\u00e9rations futures. Ce mythe cr\u00e9e un lien sacr\u00e9 entre le peuple hawa\u00efen, sa terre et sa nourriture, mettant en avant les th\u00e8mes de la famille, de la gestion responsable et de la durabilit\u00e9.
