Met After the Last Sky presenteert Anouar Brahem in Flagey een nieuw album dat even po\u00ebtisch als urgent klinkt. Acht jaar na Blue Maqams vervolgt de Tunesische oedspeler zijn muzikale zoektocht tussen Arabische tradities en jazz. Voor dit project omringt hij zich met drie gelijkgestemde muzikale avonturiers: pianist Django Bates, celliste Anja Lechner en bassist Mats Eilertsen. De titel van zijn nieuwe album ontleent Brahem aan een vers van de Palestijnse dichter Mahmoud Darwish: \u201cWaar vliegen de vogels voorbij de laatste hemel?\u201d\u00a0 Die vraag vertaalt zich in een kwetsbare maar intense muzikale conversatie, gedragen door wederzijds vertrouwen. In een wereld getekend door verdeeldheid en geweld is Brahems muziek zowel een toevluchtsoord als een vorm van verzet.<\/p>\n
