Het Wiertz Museum is tijdelijk gesloten zijn voor werkzaamheden. De werkzaamheden bestaan uit de renovatie van de ingang van het museum (buiten en binnen) en de conci\u00ebrgewoning. Het Wiertz Museum zal gesloten zijn voor het publiek voor de duur van de werken, die tegen de zomer van 2025 klaar moeten zijn.
\nHelemaal in de sfeer van toen: een museum gewijd aan schilder, beeldhouwer en auteur Antoine Wiertz (1806\u20131865), een controversi\u00eble figuur uit de Belgische romantiek die dit gigantische atelier in 1850 liet bouwen op kosten van de Belgische staat.
\nWiertz hield van spektakel. Hij schilderde gigantische doeken waarin hij zijn neiging tot het buitenissige kwijt kon \u2013 het 8 meter brede Grieken en Trojanen vechten om het lijk van Patroclus bijvoorbeeld \u2013 maar hij is ook de geschiedenis ingegaan met zijn dramatische onderwerpen en angstaanjagende taferelen zoals De overhaaste begrafenis. Zijn beroemdste doek is waarschijnlijk wel Twee meisjes of De mooie Rosine, dat een meisje oog in oog met een skelet voorstelt en waaruit duidelijk zijn fascinatie voor de dood en de broosheid van het leven blijkt.
