Description
The Mercelis welcomes artists and audiences just a stone’s throw from the Place Fernand Cocq in Ixelles. The multi-purpose hall, located on the ground floor of the building, is a modular space equipped with a bar. The room can host various cultural events (exhibitions, shows, residencies, etc.).

History
Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the Mercelis Theatre initially housed a café and a billiard room on the ground floor. In the 1930s, the municipality rented the premises before becoming the owner of the building shortly after the Second World War.
In 1953, the municipal architect Armand Poppe renovated the theatre, both on the inside and the outside, to give it its current appearance.
In 2010, following the relocation of the French-speaking library to a new building in Rue Mercelis 19, the ground floor was converted into a multi-purpose room with a bar and a theatre space geared towards young audiences and residencies.
In 2020, the dressing rooms were completely refurbished.
