At sixteen, Helena Buckinx (b. 1970, Schoten) painted her first artwork as an alternative to writing in her teenage diary. What began as a pastime during a long summer holiday grew into a true passion. Gouache made way for oil paint, bringing colors to life with greater intensity. Her distinctive, somewhat naïve yet recognizable style remained, as did the themes reflecting her world of life and dreams. Over the past forty years, Helena has organized numerous exhibitions. Recently, she participated in a group exhibition in Panama. Although she lives and works in Brussels, this is her first exhibition in the city in over fifteen years. In addition to her work as a painter, Helena is also an author. Her debut novel, Travellers in Transit, featuring a cover based on one of her paintings, won the Indie Awards 2021 Audience Prize. The book was later published in English under the title Travellers in Transit.
