Kourosh Ghazvineh : Hailing from Sahneh in Iran’s Kermanshah province, Kourosh Ghazvineh began his journey with the Persian santur at a young age. He later delved into the classical Kurdish-Persian makam for the tanbur, a long-necked lute, propelling him into an international career. As a resident composer at Radio Kermanshah, Ghazvineh not only penned a book on tanbur music but also taught at the “Labyrinth Music Workshops” in Crete (Houdetsi) and Rhodes (2017). His passion for music is evident not just in his performances and teachings but also in his dedicated support for the victims of the devastating 2017 Kermanshah earthquake. Kurdophone : Contemporary Explorations of Kurdish-Iranian Music Kurdophone’s compositions are both inspiring and emotionally resonant, blending musical sophistication with heartfelt expression. This Austrian-based quintet merges the intricate elements of Kurdish-Iranian music with jazz-rock influences and combines Arabic-Turkish maqams with classical music. Featuring Sarvin Hazin on kamancheh and violin, Amir Ahmadi on piano, Hélène Glüxam on double bass, and Amir Wahba on percussion, the group—founded by singer and tanbur player Omid Darvish—creates a unique fusion at the intersection of Iranian folk music, Kurdish melodies, and contemporary classics. Their brilliant performance at Babel Music XP 2024 in Marseille made a lasting impression
