Founded in 2016, the Erämaa Trio invites you to discover new sound and musical territories of the 20th and 21st centuries. Here, they play two pieces: Dplacement, a commission by Ars Musica to Atau Tanaka, and Hommage à Purcell by Patricia Alessandrini (2010). Dplacement by Atau Tanaka is a work that strikes a balance between acoustic chamber music and electronic music. It plays with the ideas of displacement and migration within music, but also between cultures and peoples. In Hommage à Purcellherinterprets composer Patricia AlessandriniMusic for the Funeral of Queen Mary by English composer Purcell (1695). In this work, which also combines electronics and acoustics, Alessandrini explores how this funeral march was used in a variety of contexts after its creation, including the theatre for which it was originally written, Queen Mary's funeral, and its modern use in the credits of Stanley Kubrick's film A Clockwork Orange. The prestigious Quartetto Prometeo is known for its versatility and eclecticism, brilliantly interpreting both classical and contemporary repertoire. In the programme of this edition of Ars Musica, the Italian quartet will perform works by Gabriele Manca, Salvatore Sciarrino (Quatuor n.8, 2008), Francesco Antonioni (Surfarara, 2024) as well as a piece in which string quartet and percussionists make music together (Toutes les disponibilités errantes (du vide infini) 2022) with Luigi Nono and Guillaume Dufay. Finally, the Quartetto Prometeo will perform Le Réveil d'Eléavan Apolline Jésupret. This composition showcases the composer's refined talent with a subtle variety of rhythms, nuances and expressiveness. Le Réveil d'Eléa is an Ars Musica commissioned work that has already been performed in July 2022 at the Chigiana Festival in Tuscany, and will have its Belgian premiere here!
