Weekly swing classes from February to June. Fancy learning to dance to the wonderful music of the 1930s and 1940s? LINDY HOP: Lindy Hop originated within the African-American community in the large dance halls of Harlem, New York, such as the Savoy Ballroom and the Cotton Club. This energetic dance, a forerunner of rock ’n’ roll and boogie, is a jazz dance and above all a social dance: you almost always dance with a partner. Lindy Hop is based on a combination of styles including Charleston and tap dance. It is an incredibly joyful dance with lots of freedom, allowing you to really express your own personality. Dancing as it was meant to be: communicating with each other, playing together and responding to the music. As strange as it may sound, Lindy Hop is completely contemporary. It was a “cool” dance back then—and it still is today. Do you feel like learning to dance to the beautiful music of the 1930s and 1940s?
