Monsieur Hulot is on his way to Paris, carrying a crumpled piece of paper with the address of a certain Monsieur Giffard. In an office building, he is shown into a large glass-walled waiting room where he waits (and waits) for his appointment with Giffard. But this meeting never takes place, and in the meantime, Hulot finds himself caught up in a series of adventures.
