In collaboration with the Embassy of Ecuador and on the occasion of the Day of the Dead, Instituto Cervantes Brussels will screen the Ecuadorian thriller "Chuzalongo" (Diego Ortuño, 2024) on Monday, 2 November at 6:30 p.m. "Chuzalongo" is set in a world of magic and fantasy, drawing on the narrative tradition of the classic vampire story. The film takes place at the end of the 19th century, when the Liberal Revolution was about to achieve its goals in Ecuador. Colourful characters and beautiful locations transport the audience to a world where traditions hold special significance and nature plays a profound role in the story. Synopsis A lost child appears in a remote Andean village at the end of the 19th century. Nicanor, the village priest, decides to take care of him and discovers that a few drops of the child’s blood make crops grow and bear fruit miraculously. Before long, Nicanor realises that the only way to keep the child alive is to feed him human blood. The priest must decide whether to protect the child and bring him new victims, or let him die, knowing that the crops on which the villagers depend will die with him. 2 November, 6:30 p.m. Instituto Cervantes, Av.
