Theatrical adaptation of the novel of the same name by Josefina Aldecoa about a teacher in the early 20th century, directed by Gemma Miralles and performed by actress Paula Llorens. Gabriela López delves into the attic of her memory, where the memories of her past as a teacher reside. Through her recollections, we encounter some of the most important characters and events in Spain at the beginning of the 20th century. This performance is a tribute to all those women teachers who fought to educate Spain in a time of poverty, ignorance and oppression. With more than 100 performances throughout Spain, the play has twice been nominated for Best Breakthrough Production and Best Adaptation at the Premios Max, and has received a nomination for Best Adaptation at the Valencian Performing Arts Awards. JOSEFINA ALDECOA (AUTHOR) Josefina Rodríguez Álvarez (La Robla, León, 8 March 1926 - Mazcuerras, Cantabria, 16 March 2011). Literature and pedagogy were Josefina Aldecoa's great passions. She held a PhD in Education and was the founder and director of Colegio Estilo from 1959 until her death in 2011. Her mother and grandmother were teachers who applied the educational principles of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza. Aldecoa was part of the literary group that published the poetry magazine Espadaña. GEMMA MIRALLES (DIRECTOR) Born in Alcoi in 1973. She graduated in Dramatic Arts, specialising in acting, from the Institut del Teatre of the Diputació de Barcelona, as part of its first university-level graduating class. She has performed in numerous productions and directed many others with companies such as La Dependent, Escalante Centre Teatral, Anem Anant and Bambalina. In 2016, she received the Eduard Escalante Award at the “Premis Ciutat de València de Teatre en Valencià” for De Sukei a Naima. PAULA LLORENS (ACTRESS AND ADAPTATION) Actress, theatre director and playwright. She graduated in Dramatic Arts from the Escuela del Actor de Valencia and in Hispanic Philology from the Universitat de València. In 2016, she completed her studies in Stage Direction and Dramaturgy at RESAD in Madrid. Some of her works as an author include Cardiovascular (finalist for the V Premio Teatro Nuevos Tiempos of the AET), Records de l’oblit, Flores silenciadas and Lluvia. She has been nominated for the Crisálide Award of the Aapv (2012), for Best Leading Actress at the “Ciudad de Cullera” Comedy Theatre Competition (2011), and for Best Supporting Actress at the Villa de Mislata (2010).
