As part of the international cultural programme of Trenčín 2026 - European Capital of Culture, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Brussels presents FOR MAAT BRUSSELS 2026, a collective exhibition showcasing contemporary visual art from Slovakia. The exhibition is organised in cooperation with FOR MAAT Gallery, an independent art platform based in Trenčín. Active in the field of contemporary visual art, FOR MAAT focuses on presenting emerging and established artists, supporting new artistic production and creating opportunities for dialogue between artists, institutions and audiences. Through exhibitions, collaborations and international projects, the platform contributes to the development of the contemporary art scene in Slovakia and beyond. The exhibition presents works by five contemporary artists from Slovakia, each offering a distinct artistic language and perspective: Juraj Toman, whose work explores the expressive possibilities of contemporary painting and visual storytelling; Zovinec Bros, an artistic duo known for their interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to visual creation; Jana Gombíková, a photographer and visual artist whose projects often engage with memory, identity and personal narratives; Nadežda Koyšová, whose paintings combine sensitivity, symbolism and an interest in human experience; Andrej Danóczi, a visual artist whose work reflects contemporary artistic experimentation and individual expression. Together, these artists represent the diversity of contemporary visual art from Slovakia, ranging from painting and photography to interdisciplinary artistic approaches. Their works engage with themes of memory, identity, landscape, transformation and the relationship between personal and collective experience. The opening evening will feature a presentation of the exhibition and the participating artists, followed by a networking reception bringing together representatives of the cultural sector, diplomatic community and the wider international public in Brussels. By connecting artists, audiences and institutions across borders, FOR MAAT BRUSSELS 2026 highlights the role of contemporary art as a tool for cultural exchange and dialogue, while offering a distinctive glimpse into the creative energy of Trenčín 2026 and today's art scene in Slovakia.
