Album Release ‘Angels & Demons @ Play' re#encounter is a hybrid trans(e)jazz collective that brings together Brussels' most powerful voices for celebratory ceremonies blending tradition and innovation. With Gnawa rhythms, cumbia vocals, griot storytelling and ecstatic jazz improvisations, the group creates a vibrant, danceable soundscape that exudes spontaneity, cultural authenticity and an affinity for all things sacred. More than a concert, re#encounter is a living ritual that fuses music, live conversation, audience participation and visuals to create a powerful shared experience. re#encounter echoes the very essence of the city : a rhizome of trajectories and encounters beyond differences – undefined, chaotic, yet rich and stimulating. Each encounter challenges certainties, opens new horizons, and creates new nodes and connections within the network that unites us. Rather than seeking fusion, an encounter produces difference. It breaks down, only to invite us to rethink, re-evaluate, reformulate and rebuild. The encounter is the creative force of today's city. In Angels & Demons @ Play, their debut album and live project, re#encounter explores in depth their strongest common ground : trance. A common thread links Hicham's Gnawa idiom, Kaito's boundless energy, Paula's back-to-the-roots cumbia and Lúci's ecstatic jazz improvisations. In this project, re#encounter establishes a dialogue between Hicham's Gnawa chants and the traces of griot and cumbia in the voices of Kaito and Paula, weaving together stories of ancestors, cosmic journeys and djinns into a local Afro-diasporic narrative. Lúcia, Joos and Robbe craft vibrant soundscapes and infectious melodies from traditional materials, whilst Falk and Anaïs navigate with ease through this orchestral whirlwind, binding it all together with tight, culturally imbued rhythms. Spontaneity and improvisation are the norm, with hypnotic meditations giving way to festive outbursts. In September 2026, Angels & Demons @ Play will be released as an album on W.E.R.F. Records. In a spectacular live show, re#encounter aims not only to dazzle the audience with top-class improvisation and a unique line-up, but also to actively engage them in a performance that feels more like a ceremony than a concert.
