No other medieval composer has captured the public imagination quite as much as the famous 12th century abbess, Hildegard von Bingen, who was a visionary, mystic, political correspondent, healer and musician. Penelope Turner (www.penelopeturner.com) takes an authentic approach to interpreting Hildegard's music, remaining faithful to the original 12th century notation. She also composes original works that enrich and envelop Hildegard's music, placing it in a 21st century classical music sound world (www.soundcloud/projecthildegard). This concert completes a series of four "Singing Hildegard von Bingen" workshops given by Penelope, dedicated to singing Hildegard's music from the original 12th century notation. Penelope will be joined on stage for some of the chants by her workshop attendees, and the audience will receive a short, participatory, introduction to the notation before the concert begins.
