Photo Contest La Forestière Captures Happiness

This year’s annual photo contest organized by the day center La Forestière focuses on happiness. Participants eagerly show where it can be found: love, preferably within marriage.

For the third time, La Forestière in the Rue d’Été is organizing a photo contest involving day centers from all over Brussels. To allow as many people as possible to enjoy it, a photo exhibition will be held at the end of the event, this time at Kult XL Ateliers.

Each contest features themes that are close to the hearts of the approximately 60 adults with disabilities at La Forestière. This time, they could immerse themselves in the question “What is happiness?” using various media such as paintings, drawings, embroidery, and ceramics. Since many of them find it challenging to express their emotions verbally, they can convey their personal stories, experiences, and emotional expressions through their artworks.

Around 60 adults with disabilities can visit Zomerstraat daily from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. In addition to activities aimed at supporting them in daily life, reducing their dependency, and increasing inclusion, creative workshops such as this photo contest are regularly organized. Their work shows that they primarily perceive happiness in love, often using marriage as a visual symbol.

A professional jury, active in both the photography and disability sectors, was engaged for the contest. So, come not only to the vernissage on March 13 but also to the award ceremony on March 15 at 2 PM to see who this year’s winners are!
