KULT XL Expo presents Alluvions from 15 October, an exhibition exploring grief, cycles and transformation. L’image élargie follows at the Chapelle de Boondael from 5 November, bringing together photography and multidisciplinary art.

What remains when something disappears? This is the question at the heart of Alluvions, an exhibition by Esther Babulik, Aurore Scotet, Jeanne Pruvot Simonneaux and Léa Brami. “Grief is a loss, but it is also a layer that settles and permanently changes the ground,” explain the artists. Alluvium is not the flood itself, but what it leaves behind: a sediment, sometimes fertile, sometimes heavy, that settles and transforms the landscape. Each artist explores this idea through her own practice, using painting, sculpture, textiles and installation.
Aurore explores moving materials through painting and video. Esther creates sculptures that bring together bodies, materials and forms of life. Léa creates a space from objects, fragments and textiles carrying stories of struggle and political and affective bonds of kinship. Jeanne plays with textiles and signs to evoke presence and disappearance.
The experience continues through a series of events linked to the exhibition. On 7 November at 2 pm, Léa Brami invites the public to join her storytelling tour Habiter les vestiges. An opportunity to discover the stories behind artefacts of struggle from the 19th and 20th centuries. On 1 November at 3 pm, Jeanne Pruvot Simonneaux and Anna Czapski present Nous reviendrons : une préparation à l’hantologie des lieux, a sensory experience through the works, exploring ghosts and places we might one day haunt.

Photography: a trace of the past that remains
Following the traces left by disappearance in Alluvions, L’image élargie explores the traces we preserve through photography. Presented at the Chapelle de Boondael from 5 to 29 November, the exhibition brings together a collective of artists from the URsquare studios, who question what happens to images in the digital age. By combining photography with weaving, painting, collage, analogue photography and 3D printing, they transform the photograph into material, texture, pattern and sometimes even sculpture.
